WESCAR 2015 schedule release

The WESCAR 2015 racing season schedule is set. We are looking forward to another true short track series. Thanks to all of the racetracks for their support. The best sportsman drivers in western Canada will do battle for the coveted WESCAR championship cup. New to the series is the triple 50 lap races in Agassiz. Two fifty lap qualifying mains will set up a 50 lap feature.

The witty stock car racer from Canada's west coast traveled to Daytona Speedway last week to participate in the ARCA racing series test session at the World Center of Speed. Her performance and aptitude impressed the right people, and she earned the chance to race in February for an established team. The exuberant girl from Summerland, British Columbia, signed a contract with Tony Blanchard and Wayne Hixson to compete in the ARCA stock car race at Daytona Speedway during February's Speedweeks. Sarah Cornett-Ching between test sessions at Daytona Speedway earlier in December "I'm not sure I can put into words how exciting this is for me," said Cornett-Ching. "I tested last year with Tony's car in hopes to race, but things didn't come together. It might have been for the best because this time I felt really comfortable in the car. Now it's time to find funding." Cornett-Ching funded the test out of her own pocket. The 23-year-old with 'girl next door' looks chooses to work in remote locations as a certified welder because it pays more. Everything she does is driven by her desire to race at the highest levels. "For the last year I saved money to pay for this test, but now that I have the opportunity to race I have less than two months to find funding," she said. "It was all a dream until Saturday, but now it's reality." Cornett-Ching will spend the next few weeks aggressively meeting with potential marketing partners, and she hopes a funding website will garner personal donations to help her achieve her dream. A donation website has been set up at www.gofundme.com/SarahatDaytona , and already people have stepped up to support a young lady well known in her part of British Columbia. Sarah has nearly 10 years of experience behind the wheel of full-sized stock cars. Her father put her behind the wheel as soon as she was allowed by track rules, and it didn't take long for Sarah to excel. In her young racing career she has seen success in late models, and she competed with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at her home track in Vernon, British Columbia. The opportunity to race Daytona is one most racers dream of, but Cornett-Ching has her sights set even higher. "We discussed the possibility of doing multiple races," she said. "Tony Blanchard has great equipment, and I hope to find backing to compete as much as I can in 2014. I'm excited to drive the cars and work on them as well." With her welding certifications Blanchard expects to put Sarah's technical skills to great use. "Sarah is unique in the world of motorsports," said Blanchard. "There are plenty of good drivers, but Sarah's ability to race, fabricate components on the race car and stand in front of a camera and represent herself and her team as well as she does is rare. I want Daytona to be the start of something big for this young lady." Sarah Cornett-Ching will drive the #2 car in February in Daytona. 2014 ASA Advance Testing Banquet Review

2014 Banquet - Agassiz Speedway / ASA Advance Testing Late Model Tour

The 2014 ASA Advance testing awards banquet is wrapped up and put to bed. Thanks again to Agassiz Speedway for inviting the ASA series to be a part of their banquet. Thanks also to Pat, Barb, Andy and the rest of the Agassiz crew for putting on a great event. Congratulations to all Agassiz Speedway award winners, many well-earned awards and achievements within the local racing community. 

The ASA Advance testing banquet began with Mike Ernst, master of ceremonies extending a great thanks to the founder of Advance Testing, John Ross, for his commitment to the ASA series and to racing in BC. John has been a loyal supporter for years and his support is greatly appreciated.  The top ten points recipients were honored with a custom built banner for their achievements. The 71 car of Dave Olson earned both the best appearing car and best appearing crew awards, the car was bright and well kept all season, and the crew was looking good as always. 

                                                                                                                    

The number 10 car of Wes Mader earned the most improved driver award with a great top three overall performance. The most sportsmanlike award, voted on by the drivers, was awarded to Joe Cornett-Ching. Joe is a great competitor and a gentleman on and off the track. The hard luck trophy was reluctantly received by Ian Graham. A tough start to his season being involved in “The Big Wreck”, then two other big wrecks. Ian returned strong each night and went on to be the only racer to win two events in the 2014 season. 

The sponsor of the year award was given to Ashely Furniture coming on line with not only a contingent sponsorship, but 2 Lazyboy recliners given to race winners in Quesnel and Williams Lake. The recliners have become one of the MUST WIN trophies for the series.  Dave Key was awarded the Most Committed Crewmember award. An emotional award commemorating the hard work of crew members to not only perform at a high level on their own equipment, but selflessly help others. The presidents’ award was given to Brigitte Clayton for her hard work over many years with the series in the timing tower.

Thanks also to our hard working and talented officials. Without their hard work and dedication the series wouldn’t be what it is today.

  

Cameron Graham was honored with the Rookie of the Year Award. Cam raced hard, stayed out of trouble, and was the first rookie to finish in the top three in the history of the series. Cam shared the third place position in a tie with Wes Mader. 

Racing incredibly hard all season, and putting together his best season yet was runner up Logan Jewel. A hard charging racer who will be fighting for the top spot next year.

 The WESCAR CUP was awarded to Korbin Thomas for top points. A perfectly prepared car and a driver who is cool under pressure hoisted the cup for the 5^th time in the history of the series. 

Thanks to everyone involved in the series. Tracks, fans, racers, sponsors, and officials. This is an awesome touring series travelling to some of the greatest tracks in Western Canada. Without the support of everyone, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy this great sport. Looking forward to a great 2015 season.
